Disney Challenge Day 30: Favorite Chameleon Girls Dress

It's the last day of the Disney challenge!  It's been so much fun to have a Disney-inspired post every day this month, but oh my goodness, I am glad I don't have to keep up anymore! :)

The challenge was hosted by the lovely Etsy shop, Chameleon Girls.  They offer the cutest assortment of everyday play peasant dresses, inspired by our favorite Disney characters.  I can't wait until Adelaide is just a little bit older and knows about the princesses, because this concept is so fantastic!

(Source)

Today I'm choosing a favorite dress from the Chameleon Girls collection - and honestly, I have to go with the Minnie Mouse Peasant Dress!  Minnie is a long-lasting classic character and their dress design is simple and adorable.  I almost wish that the dresses were offered in adult sizes, because I kind of want to wear a different one myself every day!

Hope you had fun reading all of my Disney favorites this month!  Make sure you follow along on the Chameleon Girls Facebook page and the Disney 30 Day Challenge Pinterest Board for each day's challenge!  Plus, you can read all of my favorites here on the blog!

A Little Update on Life

Disclaimer: no, this is not a pregnancy announcement, or anything remarkably exciting like that!

I just realized that I've been posting a lot of content that is fun, but not necessarily relevant to my family's life at the moment.  And the point of the blog is that in twenty years, I would love to have another way to look back and see what we were up to during these crazy, exhausting baby years.

So, in no particular order, here are a few snippets of our life right now!

-I haven't been "done" with laundry since before Addie was born.

-We may or may not laugh when Lincoln responds with a resounding "no!" to everything we ask.

-I haven't left the house by myself with both kids in probably a month.

-Lincoln randomly opens the fridge throughout the day, climbs up on the ledge, and sighs, "nummy, nummy, nummies!" several times a day.  I think it's cute so I don't work very hard to stop this habit.

-The sleep situation around here is still terrible.  It's currently taking me about two-three hours to get Addie settled down for the night.  This ordeal includes nursing endlessly, bouncing, rocking, multiple wake-ups, and more.  I'm at my wit's end.  I feel like I'm creating another terrible sleeper like Lincoln, but I can't/won't let her cry it out, so I have no idea what to do.

-Because it takes so long to get her to sleep, I have literally no time to do anything without a child hanging on me.  The house is getting dirtier and my sanity disappears a little more every day.

-Lincoln seems to choose the times when I am nursing to wreak as much havoc as possible.

-I'm planning to open an Etsy shop soon, and there are craft supplies everywhere.  I'm so excited about this because I love to create.  But I worry that no one will want my creations.  Or, that so many people will want them, I'll have to give it up for lack of time.

-I'm trying to reduce the amount of junk food I consume.  I threw out some candy and am attempting to eat fruit or drink infused water whenever I crave sugar.  This doesn't really work.

-I have a massive to-do list, huge number of drafted blog posts, and about 15 videos that need to be edited.  I never thought that I would be this far behind on everything. :(

-I have a tandem double stroller for the kids, but I've decided I really want a side-by-side.  And that's definitely not in our budget right now.

-I feel guilty that we don't have more playdates and that Lincoln doesn't really have that many friends his age - but I am so tired all the time that I can't fathom trying to make new friends right now.  Does this make me a terrible mom?

-I'm supposed to be offering summer drama classes as I have had a lot of requests, and it would help supplement our income - but I haven't even begun to plan them yet and the class information really should have gone out several weeks ago.

-I'm trying to grow a chocolate mint plant on my kitchen counter.  I've never grown anything before and I'm afraid it's dying.

-I really, really, really miss reading.  And I'm sometimes really jealous that my husband reads what seems like all the time.  I would give anything to just curl up in bed with a book and read it from cover to cover.  Having my arm hurt from laying on it while reading sounds better right now than having my shoulder ache because I have been holding one child or the other for 17+ hours.

-I've always thought I would be a fun, energetic, exciting mama.  About once a week, I feel like I might be headed toward that goal.  Then, usually, we have a night where no one sleeps, and I'm back at square one.

-Two weeks ago, I decided I would send some random notes to friends via snail mail - because I used to be a letter writing madwoman.  I got out five notes that day.  I've sent one.  In two weeks.  Not my greatest turnaround time.

-I baked a pan of brownies about 25 hours ago and literally ate all but about three bites myself.  Already.

This wasn't really supposed to turn into a rant about all the things that are wrong right now - but that's what it kind of seems to be!  Sorry about that.  In all honesty, life is a bit frustrating most days lately.  I'm trying to increase my patience times a billion, and am hoping that one day I'll be able to function like a coherent human on the very little sleep that seems to be normal anymore!

I'm surviving on sweet baby smiles and snuggles - and even though I get frustrated, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Disney Challenge Day 29: Favorite Heroine

(Source)

Picking a favorite Disney heroine is tough - because really, which ones count as heroines?  The princesses are each heroines in their stories. There are plenty of other female characters who aren't heroines.  I don't know - it's a tough call.

I finally decided that since Mulan already claimed the title of bravest princess and Belle was honored with both favorite princess and prettiest princess (I'm not biased, okay?), I should choose another of my top favorites - Ariel.

She's spunky, headstrong, and her hair is just about the craziest color of red I've ever seen - but she is a pretty awesome character.  She's maybe more than a little rebellious, but I love her story anyway.  And let's face it, anyone who willingly swims in to visit the sea witch's lair has some serious gumption.

Disney Challenge Day 28: Cutest Character

(Source)

As usual, I'm having a hard time deciding on a favorite in today's category!  Disney has perfected the art of turning just about anything into a cute and cuddly character - so can I just say every single character is adorable?

Okay, I digress.  I am definitely partial to certain cute characters.  And one of the first that comes to mind is Flounder.  I'm not sure why he is such great friends with Ariel, as most fish seem to be just random character's in the under-the-sea universe - but he does a great job of trying to keep his mermaid friend out of trouble.

Who's your favorite Disney cutie?

Disney Challenge Day 27: Favorite Castle

I can't believe how close we are to the end of the 30-Day Disney Challenge! I have a really crazy weekend ahead of me, so I'm sneaking this post in early today.

Who doesn't love all of the beautiful castles in the Disney universe? I honestly love them all and would like to live in most of them. Anyone know how that can be arranged?

(Source)

My favorite is the Beast's castle. I've been captivated by this shot in the movie where you first see it among the trees ever since I was a little girl. It's hidden away in a forest, it has two versions (cursed and not cursed), and just looks mysterious and intriguing. The gargoyle statues freaked me out a little when I was young, but that holds no weight on my decision! I am so excited that the next time we visit Disney World, I'll be able to see a real-life version!

Speaking of real-life, I've only seen one castle in the parks: Cinderella's Castle.

Disney Vacation, 2010.

It is one of my ultimate dreams to spend a night (or a year? I can dream, right?) in the amazing Cinderella suite. Since it appears that is only an option for the extremely rich and/or famous, I don't know that I will ever get the chance. But oh my goodness. It would be the most magical thing ever.

Disney Challenge Day 26: Favorite Prince

(Source)

If I had to pick a top favorite prince...it would probably be the Beast/Prince Adam.  But since I continually choose Beauty and the Beast favorites, I'm going with another favorite: Prince Edward from Enchanted.

This guy is hilarious.  He's first introduced, in animated form, while fighting off a giant.  He ends up in New York City in search of his lost princess, Giselle - and he's just hilariously out of place.  Everything he says and does makes me laugh, which is why I'm giving him the win today.  And he's played by James Marsden, which gives him extra bonus points of awesomeness.

Disney Challenge Day 25: Favorite Walt Disney Quote

(Source)

"All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them."
- Walt Disney

I dream big - all the time.  Lately, however, I haven't been great at the pursuit of anything aside from keeping my little ones alive (which, granted, is a worthy cause).  Here's to more dreams, more imagination, and more wonderful things than we can even fathom!

Disney Challenge Day 24: First Disney Movie I Saw

Since I have pretty much no idea which Disney classic was the first movie I saw as a child...  I'm just listing a couple of favorites that I know I enjoyed when I was very little!

It's entirely possible that The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh was my first Disney experience.  My mom planned an awesome Pooh party for my second birthday, so obviously I was aware of the willy, nilly, silly old bear by then.  Be it a birthday party for Eeyore or a heffalump or a blustery day - I loved it all.  Piglet was my favorite, though.

I have lots of memories of movies like Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, The Rescuers, Robin Hood, The Jungle Book, Bambi, and more.  The funny thing is, I've watched a lot of these movies in recent years and found some of them to be traumatizing - but as a kid, I either wasn't paying attention or just didn't care about the plight of my favorite characters, because I only remember being fond of these movies to the point that I watched them over and over again.  So weird.

Another classic that my brother and I watched more times than I can count is The Brave Little Toaster.  I think this was an early take on the Toy Story concept - just with appliances, instead of toys.  So yes, the complex that forces me to keep every toy that enters my house also extends to things like lamps, vacuum cleaners, electric blankets, and shiny toaster ovens.  Okay, not really.  I actually just got a new hairdryer last month and only felt weepy for like ten seconds, when disposing of the old one.

Disney Challenge Day 23: Best Magical Moment in a Movie

I just realized that the 30 Day Challenge has an extra Day 21 - the second of which I posted as Day 22!  Oops!  Day 22 was supposed to be Saddest Moment in a Movie - I think we'll just refer to the movie that makes me cry for that one.

Day 23 is best magical moment in a movie.  This is another one that could go so many ways, but I picked my two favorites.

Floating Lanterns in Tangled.  First time I saw it, I cried.  Pregnancy hormones may or may not have contributed to my emotional reaction, but nonetheless it is a gorgeous moment.  It was replicated at Disney on Ice, and that was pretty magical, too.

The Library in Beauty & the Beast.  Um, who wouldn't fall in love with the guy who gives you all of this?  It's my dream to have a room like this in my castle home.  At least one swirly staircase is necessary.

What's On Your... {April 2013}

I found this lovely list of questions on two of my favorite memory-keeping/scrapbooking blogs this week - Ali Edwards and Stephanie Howell - and was inspired.  My quest in memory-keeping for our family is to remember little things, just like these.  I don't know if I'll remember, but I hope to repeat this post every few months...or at least a couple times a year.  I know I'll enjoy looking back at these little moments!

Photo originally shared on Instagram

Vanity | I don't have a "real" vanity, but my dresser is a disaster of jewelry (like my Chewbeads), tights, and lip gloss that all needs to be sorted and given a new place.  I'm very much at a place of re-organization right now.  There are also a handful of things up there so that they are out of Lincoln's reach (batteries, small pieces, etc)

Perennial To Do List | Edit videos (I'm years behind).  Plant a garden.  Get the piano tuned.  Catch up on Project Life.  Get items ready for upcoming consignment sale.  Open Etsy shop.  Plan drama classes.  I could go on.

Refrigerator Shelves | Leftover fried red potatoes.  Cheese and yogurt for the toddler.  Lemon, lime, orange, and strawberries for water infusing experiments.  Panera Asian salad dressing.

Itinerary | Nothing, unfortunately.  We're toying with the idea of a trip to the Omaha Zoo, but have some other pressing house issues that need to take financial precedence. :/

Fantasy Itinerary | Disney World.  DisneyLand.  Disney Cruise. Do you see a theme?  I'd settle for Silver Dollar City or would love to go up to New England to visit my brother.

Playlist | Consistently listening to Disney inspired radio on Spotify for weeks now.  I blame the 30-Day Challenge.  Occasionally, Lenka or Mindy Gledhill is my choice (usually after the kids are asleep and I'm trying to seriously work).  Andrew's been on an Irish Tenors kick.

Nightstand | A couple of diapers, box of wipes, 6 Hot Wheels cars, a book about ladybugs, a bulb syringe, a NoseFrida, a washcloth and a bottle of water.

Workout Plan | Teach children to sleep.  Then workout.  Actually, I plan to start attending a free stroller fitness class next week.  I've gone in the past and it usually about kills me.  Haven't worked out since I was about 14 weeks pregnant with Addie, so...we'll see how it goes.

Phone | Instagram, Pinterest, texts from Andrew, Mom, Dad, Andy, and Laura.

Top 5 List | Loving my babies.  New York City.  Creating.  Watching movies and TV shows with Andrew (rare these days).  Capturing life - with photography, scrapbooking, blogging - whatever I can fit in.

Bucket List | Musical theatre (need to play a Sutton Foster character before I'm too old).  Europe.  More babies - and maybe adoption.  Disney with the kids. Write a book.

Mind | Responsibility of raising these kids. Finding time to craft.  Trying not to stress out when things don't go as planned.  Lack of sleep.  Money.

Blogroll | Growing Up GeekyCapturing Joy with Kristen DukeStephanie HowellSimple As ThatMoments That Take My Breath AwayA Beautiful RuckusChocolate-Covered KatieBirth Without Fear.

Walls of Your Favorite Room in Your House | Nintendo World mural in the nursery.  The castle  is my favorite part.

Last Credit Card Statement | More than I would like.  Groceries, eating out, Shutterfly, Target, craft supplies.

Screensaver | Alternating first baby photos from Lincoln's birth and Adelaide's birth.

TV Every Night | Andrew and I have been trying to watch The Hobbit for over a week now.  The bedtime ritual is making this somewhat impossible to accomplish.  Once that's done, we'll be back to reruns of Parks & Recreation or How I Met Your Mother.

Disney Challenge Day 22: Bravest Princess

(Source)

Today I'm supposed to choose Disney's bravest princess.  Most of the princesses have some act of bravery in their story, but I think the most deserving of this title is Mulan.  It's actually been years since I saw this film - I need to get it out soon.

I can't even remember why she is classified as a princess, to be honest. Ha!

Disney Challenge Day 21: Prettiest Princess

(Source)

If you've been following this Disney series, I'm sure you can guess my answer to this one.  The prettiest princess is - of course - Belle.  I assure you that my decision in this matter has nothing to do with my extreme bias for the Beauty and the Beast story.

It's actually mostly just because she has the same color hair as me.

Disney Challenge Day 20: Favorite Sequel

(Source)

This one is easy!  My favorite sequel is definitely Toy Story 2.  Disney/Pixar knocked it out of the park with this one, adding new characters that we could love just as much as the originals.  I think I've seen this movie more times than the original!

I enjoyed Toy Story 3 as well...but since it made me cry like a baby more than once, it doesn't get the distinction of favorite.

Disney Challenge Day 19: Favorite Soundtrack

(Source)

Picking a favorite soundtrack is just as difficult as picking one favorite Disney song - also known as, impossible.  I am unable to choose from my favorite classics like Beauty & the Beast and The Little Mermaid, so I've elected to choose a soundtrack that makes me think of all my favorites at once - Enchanted!

Andrew seems to believe this is Disney's worst film, but I love it.  It combines the classic animation of a princess with the real-life New York City - which may be harsher than the kingdom of happily ever after, but for this smalltown girl, is no less magical.  The original songs are fun to sing, and in the score I can hear pieces of several favorite Disney films.  So in my book, it's a winner all around!

Adelaide: 5 Months Old

I've made a decision, Princess Addie Rose.  Time is going way too fast.  You are not allowed to grow up so soon.  It is completely impossible that you are already five months old!

Milestones: I have noticed so many changes this past month, baby girl!  You are consistently rolling from back to tummy, almost every time I set you down.  A month ago, you couldn't get your hands under you, but now you can - and you try to push yourself up to look around!  You're moving around a lot more in general and I can tell that we're not terribly far away from mobility. Yikes.  You started playing in the exercsaucer this month and you really have enjoyed that.  You are now (mostly) sleeping in the Pack 'n Play in the office, right across the hall from Mommy and Daddy.  I hadn't really planned to move you - but Lincoln ends up sleeping in our room by 2 or 3am usually - and he woke you up so many times that I had to do something.  You typically end up in bed with Mommy as well, by 5 or 6am.  You've been waking up anywhere from one to three times a night for the last few weeks.  I could use a bit more sleep!  You've also started to look longingly at whatever food we are eating, but you have at least another month before we start any type of solid foods!

You're not sitting up by yourself, but the photo above makes it look like it could be very soon!

Loves:  Right now, your favorite things are playing in the exersaucer, watching Lincoln run around, and your Piglet rattle, plush mouse, and a host of other little soft toys.  You love to be "carried" around the house by Lincoln (with Mommy's help) - both of you just giggle hysterically the whole time.  You want to be involved in whatever is going on and seem to be fond of skipping naps altogether if it means you can watch Lincoln play longer.  You love nursing, snuggles, and can often be found chatting up a storm.

Hates:  Sleep is really our biggest struggle right now.  I know you are interested in the world, but you've got to figure out that sleep is important and will make you (and Mommy) happier!  You are exhausted by 7:30 or 8pm but usually want to nurse until 9:30 or later.  When you are finally asleep, you don't want to burp - so I lay you down and you wake up crying anywhere from ten minutes to an hour later.  The only thing that comforts you is to nurse again, but you again won't burp and we repeat this awful cycle over and over.  I'm ready for this stage to end.

You've also been a little bit grumpy when it comes to other people the last few weeks.  I think we may be dealing with a little bit of separation anxiety.  It's very, very rare that you are without me, though - since you won't take a bottle.

Weight/Height:  You are wearing 6-9 month clothes - and even a few 9-12 month outfits!  You're still wearing size 3 diapers.  I think you are around 17 pounds and are still extremely chubby.  You are starting to sprout a few more hairs atop your pretty little head - but we have a ways to go before pigtails!

You just keep on sparkling, baby princess!  We love you so!

Disney Challenge Day 18: Favorite Happy Ending

The concept of happy endings is something that has been perpetuated by Disney for years - they know how to put together a story that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside when you reach the end.  It's safe to say that I'm a huge fan of most of Disney's endings.

(Source)

If I didn't have kids, I don't know if this movie would even be on my radar.  I can chalk it up to last year's pregnancy hormones - but I have cried multiple times when Winnie the Pooh gets his giant pot of honey and walks off into the sunset with Christopher Robin.  I've been a fan of Pooh since I was Lincoln's age, but watching my little boy be enthralled with Pooh's eternal quest for honey makes my heart melt - every single time.

There's just something sweet about a little boy and his little bear.  And when you have your own sweet little boy, you can see how these precious moments of childhood are fleeting.  Here's to savoring every walk into the sunset with Pooh bear (or whatever other lovey your child favors).

Disney Challenge Day 17: Favorite Outfit

Because I'm fairly confident I could talk for years on the subject of Disney fashion, I'm going to keep this brief by selecting the two dresses that I would most love to have in my personal wardrobe.

(Source)

First up is Belle's blue "normal" dress.  I adore her gold ballgown, but it's just not the most practical piece and I don't look fabulous in yellow.  This blue dress is the definition of Belle.  Every time I see this color, I think of her - and I honestly try to buy things in this color just so I can feel like Belle when I'm going about my everyday life.  Not lying!

(Source)

I'm so in love with the color choice for Rapunzel, too.  Pinks and yellows may look good on Disney princesses, but purple looks good on just about anybody.  Next time we visit Disney, I want to wear a Rapunzel dress.  Not sure if hubby will let me get away with that.

Disney Challenge Day 16: Favorite Couple

Disney Cruise, 2010

This pick is really almost too easy!  Even with all of the princesses and wonderful romantic tales in the Disney universe, there is no better couple than Mickey and Minnie Mouse!  They are positively adorable, and will be my favorite couple forever.

Today I'm excited to share another piece of Lincoln's super fun Mickey Mouse Clubhouse 2nd Birthday Party!  The party probably would have been cute enough with the banner, photos, and balloons alone - but I enlisted Andrew's help and he came up with some fabulous signs to decorate the party room.  They're so cute, I thought you might enjoy them as well!

The printable PDF file you will find at the end of this post contains the following signs, which will print as half-sheets:

-Welcome to Our Clubhouse
-Come Inside, It's Fun Inside
-Grab Some Ears, It's Time for Cheers
-Mystery Mouseketools
-See You Real Soon!

All of these signs were made using two free fonts: Walt Disney Script and Mickey Mousebats.  I used the first two - Welcome to Our Clubhouse and Come Inside, It's Fun Inside to make the top and bottom of my front door welcome sign, as pictured above.  I also used my printable Mickey Mouse invitation template to make middle section of the front door sign.

I simply printed the signs on colored paper, then cut out bigger rectangles from coordinating paper and stacked them to add the multi-dimensional look.  There are plenty of other ways that these signs could be embellished, I'm sure - mine were created the morning of the party, so I went with something easy.

Mickey Mouse Party Hats

We used the Grab Some Ears sign near the front door, to encourage guests to snag a Mickey party hat!

mickey-mouse-clubhouse-birthday-party-decorations-free-printable-signs-easy-diy-decor
This was my favorite sign! Such a clever hubby.

The Mystery Mouseketool sign was used on our gift table!  A gift fits the Mystery Mouseketool description perfectly!

Finally, the See You Real Soon! sign graced the spot right next to the door, so it was the last thing guests saw as they were leaving.

These are a pretty simple decoration to add to your party, but they add a lot of character!  Let me know if you use them; I would love to hear what you think.

Ready to print? You can find the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Free Birthday Party Sign Printables here!

Want a custom version of the "Welcome to Our Clubhouse" sign with your child's name instead of the Our? You can grab a downloadable, personalized version in my Etsy shop! There is also a downloadable, printable "Happy Birthday" sign which can be customized with your child's name and age. Don't have time to make signs? Snag a banner to hang up in your party room.

Planning a party for a Minnie Mouse fan? I have a couple of Minnie inspired headbands available in my shop, too!

Happy party planning!

Disney Challenge Day 15: Favorite Ride & Attraction

Since I've only been to Disney World once, I have to admit that I am not completely familiar with all of the rides and attractions, so today was hard!  I've decided that we just need to take several trips to both Disney World AND Disneyland, so that I can have a better overall knowledge of the parks.  Now accepting donations for the trip fund!

(Source)

Favorite Ride: I'm going to choose Space Mountain, in the Magic Kingdom.  We had the longest wait for this of anything we rode on our Disney trip, but I think it was worth it.  The concept is really fun.  I can't wait to ride it again, though I'm a little bit terrified thinking about my kids on a dark indoor roller coaster!

(Source)

Favorite Attraction: This I can answer without even having been to this experience yet.  Enchanted Tales with Belle is going to be a-ma-zing.  I'm secretly relieved that I have a daughter to take to this, because I am pretty sure I would have been clamoring in line with all of the young Disney visitors for my own chance to attend otherwise.  Ha!
