Local Tree Service - Babysitters Extraordinaire

So, here's the thing.  We have one tree in our entire yard.

It's in the front yard.  It's small - we planted it earlier this year.  Tried to plant one in 2011, but it died practically overnight - so this is attempt #2.  So far it's going pretty well.

But the people who live behind us?  They have approximately eleventy-billion trees.

All right, so maybe that's a slight exaggeration.  But they have a lot of trees.  And most of them seem to be growing into the fence line.  But they're all technically on their side of the fence, so we can't really do anything about it!  There are also a lot of power lines running across our backyard.  And this means that about once a year, some city employees stop by to hack down all the trees that are becoming dangerously close to the lines.  Smart of them.

I didn't realize until this year how incredibly awesome this would work out for me!  The workers chopped down a serious number of branches and it just so happened that our front yard was where they deposited them all until it was time to mulch them.

Have you figured this out yet?  It's like a free babysitting service!  Lincoln was absolutely captivated by the giant loud orange truck in front of our house.

He kept looking over at me in awe, saying "Truh!!! Truh!! Truh!!!"  Yep, buddy.  Mommy was excited to see the truck, too.

In fact, I wish they would stop by more often!

What odd or surprising things have you used to entertain your kids?  I'm always open to new ideas!
