I Didn't Go to Prom

Today's prom dress discussion is brought to you by JenJenHouse. All opinions expressed are my own.

Let me repeat that: I didn't go to prom. GASP.

Actually, though, I was fine with it. I was a homeschool student who couldn't care less about boys and dancing, so I didn't even feel like I was missing out. Looking back, though, I can imagine the ridiculous fun my group of girlfriends and I would have had at such an event. We would have probably crashed it.

Even though we didn't go to a dance, that never stopped us from appreciating prom dress fashion! Yes - we were the teenagers who went to a department store with the sole purpose of trying on fancy prom dresses. We took photos and made scrapbook pages and laughed ourselves silly.

If Addie wants to attend prom someday, I guess I will have a whole new shopping experience ahead of me. But maybe we'll skip the fitting rooms altogether and shop on the web. Online stores like JenJenHouse offer a phenomenal variety of special occasion dresses - definitely a larger selection than what would be found in a typical store.

A dress like this probably would have looked great on me.
I would never have picked it back then.

It makes me feel really old thinking about prom, and my daughter is not even two years old yet! I wonder how much fashion trends will change in the next sixteen years. I'm not a super fashionista, but I'm having fun browsing http://www.jenjenhouse.com/. I wonder if my drama students would be up for an Awards night celebration with everyone in formal attire - I kind of want a fancy new dress for myself now!

Thanks to JenJenHouse for sponsoring this post. All opinions expressed are my own.

  1. I didn't go to Prom either! We go to church on Saturdays and I play drums/sing and decided it was more important than attending prom. I don't regret it one bit. However I love looking at prom dresses! Love that yellow one!

  3. I didn't go to prom either!! But guess what? A friend and I were trying on prom dresses just for kicks and I stumbled upon a white one that I realized was perfect for my wedding dress!! No idea why they had a white prom dress but whatever! It was $150 so I got it right then, even though I wasn't engaged yet! haha. Then realized I sure had some explaining to do to my parents when I got home. Love the styles on JenJenHouse. They have some lovely night out dresses!(or whatever you formally call them haha :) )

    1. That's a cool story! I bought a wedding dress at a thrift shop once, but ended up using it for a community theatre show. :)

  4. I went to prom twice, but it was the homeschool prom and the ballroom dance group I was with hosted it. :D It was a LOT of fun. :)

  5. I totally would try on prom dresses with my girlfriends when we were younger. It was so much fun. I went to prom and had a good time but I wasn't too fond of my date. Had more fun with my friends that were there! :)

    1. If I had gone to prom, it definitely would have been with just a group of girlfriends!

  6. I got asked to my (homeschool) prom, but my parents wouldn't let me go. In retrospect.... I think they should have, but my biggest problem was I couldn't afford a dress. So it's probably good they didn't let me. A few months later I did get one for $30 at the Jones store and got to wear it to our Theatre Company post-show formal awards ceremony. Kind of make up for it.

Now I'm a little obsessed with buying fancy dresses and I actually get to wear them faily often because of the Candlelight dances that Will and I got to through Camelot Ballroom. So, I guess it was better to wait and get to go with my wonderful husband on multiple occasions rather than just one big hyped up night. :)

    1. I think your logic makes total sense. I've thought recently about doing some sort of formal drama night just so I get to wear a fancy dress. Though getting myself THAT dressed up sounds like waaaay more work than I am willing to do right now. :)
