#SpiceYourSlice with Frank's RedHot from Papa Murphy's

Disclosure: I was compensated for this post about Papa Murphy’s and their new Buffalo Chicken pizza featuring Frank’s RedHot. All opinions and statements remain 100% my own. #SpiceYourSlice #Ad

Sometimes, a little break from the "norm" is all you need to change up weeknight dinner monotony - am I right? My kids are on a special allergen-free diet, so our meal options are sometimes limited. So what does that mean? Sometimes, I have to spice it up after the kids are in bed with a late-night snack! When the kids are sleeping, I don't have the freedom to just hop in the car and grab takeout, but with a little advance planning and the take and bake pizza restaurant right around the corner, I'm able to have a yummy option waiting in my fridge at the end of the night.

Papa Murphy's has introduced a fresh pizza to their menu this fall: Buffalo Chicken. The pizza is made with a spicy buffalo sauce made with Frank’s RedHot sauce, grilled chicken, mozzarella, green
onions, provolone and cheddar cheese, and then drizzled all over with Creamy Garlic Sauce.

Normally, I'm not very adventurous with my pizza, but this option is definitely intriguing! The hot sauce is not as hot as I expected, and the garlic sauce adds a unique taste. The chicken is my favorite part...or maybe the cheese. Yum!

Papa Murphy's is now offering online ordering at many locations (awesome news), and they are the world's largest take and bake pizza chain restaurant. I love take and bake pizza, because I can pick it up early in the day and have it ready for whatever meal or event we have planned!

My perfect pizza usually just features cheese and pineapple, but trying out the new Buffalo Chicken pizza was a fun break from routine!

What do you think? Would you try the new Buffalo Chicken pizza from Papa Murphy's?

"Grapenstein" - A Frankenstein Healthy Halloween Non-Candy Treat Idea

"Grapenstein" Frankenstein Healthy Halloween Non-Candy Treat Idea

If you're planning a Halloween party and looking for a non-candy treat idea, here's one to keep in mind! It's inexpensive and easy to put together - and best of all, a big hit with the kids. My kids can't have most candy because we are on a special allergen-free diet. Creating cute non-candy treat options with healthy foods is a great way to keep everyone involved in the holiday fun!

Note: the instructions DO include two small pieces of candy. If even that is too much, you could make the eyes out of paper instead and glue them to the outside of the cup!

Supplies Needed
-Clear Plastic Cups
-Electrical Tape
-Green Grapes
-Marshmallows (Elyon has a gluten-free option)
-M&M's or Other Small Candy (Little Secrets dark chocolate is a non-dairy option)
-Scissors

Instructions

1. Wrap a single piece of electrical tape around the rim of the clear plastic cup.

2. Layer a second piece of tape on the cup. Before you add the layer, cut some jagged spots and some fringe to give your "Grapenstein" some awesome crazy hair. Wrap the jagged tape around the cup, just under the first piece of tape.

3. Wash your grapes and fill each cup up halfway.

4. Cut a marshmallow in half, but be careful not to cut all the way through. On the sticky side of the marshmallow, add two small candy eyes.

5. Put the marshmallow eyes into the cup, on top of the grapes. Fill the rest of the cup with green grapes.

6. Cut some small pieces of electrical tape to make the mouth and stitches. Attach to outside of each cup.

When I was planning Lincoln's Octonauts birthday party, I ran into some challenges when it came to Octonauts birthday party food ideas. Lincoln is on a special diet due to some recently discovered food sensitivities, so he can't have dairy, gluten, wheat, oats, or eggs. Making a birthday party food plan with those specifications felt impossible, but really, it turned out just fine. Lincoln loved just about everything, and if our guests thought the cake tasted weird, they didn't say anything.

For the party table, I just did a blue tablecloth, representative of the ocean. We attached small sparkly fish and sea creatures (cut with my Silhouette Portrait) to balloon strings and let those dangle above and behind the table. It gave a good impression of an underwater world.

We found pictures of the characters online to use for the food signs. You can find my free printable of these signs here.

Our menu included:

-Peso's Sticky Starfish (similar to Rice Krispies treats, but made with vegan rice cereal, shortening, and gluten-free marshmallows, cut into star shapes).

-Shellington's Jumping Jellyfish Jello

-Gup of Fruit (cut from a canteloupe to resemble the Gup A)

-Seaweed Chips (homemade kale chips)

-Tweak's Buncha Muncha Crunchy Carrots

-Professor Inkling's Humuhumunukunukuapua'a Hummus

-Sea Cucumbers

-Tunip's Fish Biscuits (cupcakes made with this vegan recipe)

-Barnacle Kabobs (grape skewers)

-Kwazii's Shark Teeth (vegan "cheese")

-Coral Chunks (dried pineapple)

-Jellyfish Juice (orange juice)

-Fresh, salt-free ocean water (bottles)

We also served sweet tea, but it was added at the last minute and didn't get a clever tag. Ha!

It really turned out cute - and everything was healthy! Definitely a win.

The Humuhumunukunukuapua'a Hummus included a bell pepper cut to resemble an octopus. Andrew drew on eyes and a monocle with a Sharpie. I wish bell peppers came in pink!

The Fruit Gup A was probably the cutest thing on the table. I meant to put some characters in it and forgot, but I thought that would have been a nice touch. (tutorial on how I made it coming soon)

My kids were probably responsible for clearing out the strawberries, watermelon, canteloupe, and blueberries used in this fruit assortment all on their own.

The Buncha Muncha Crunchy Carrots were definitely the easiest thing to make.

Octonauts Birthday Party Food Ideas | Peso's Sticky Starfish | Under the Sea Party at directorjewels.com

The Sticky Starfish did not retain their sticky awesomeness very well. Within about an hour, they were pretty crunchy and hard to eat. I may need to create a better recipe.

The kids loved the jello, too. It wasn't Jello brand - I found it in the health food section at my grocery store. It's not free of sugar, but it does not have artificial color.

I'm surprised how much we loved these cupcakes (link above). They're vegan. It's the best no-egg baked goods recipe I've discovered yet.

For the frosting, we made easy coconut whipped cream.

Octonauts Birthday Party Food Ideas | Dashi's Sea Cucumbers | Under the Sea Party at directorjewels.com

Sea Cucumbers were really easy, too - just slice 'em up!

Octonauts Birthday Party Food Ideas | Kale Seaweed Chips | Under the Sea Party at directorjewels.com

Seaweed chips were made using a kale chips recipe we found on Google or Pinterest. I honestly don't remember which one, but most of them are pretty similar. They turned out great. They were actually one of my favorite things on the table.

Octonauts Birthday Party Food Ideas | Kwazii's Shark Teeth | Jellyfish Juice | Under the Sea Party at directorjewels.com

There was actually some real cheese offered in the Shark Teeth option, but my kids just ate the vegan option. I didn't think I should force our guests to put aside all normal things in one shot.

Octonauts Birthday Party Food Ideas | Fresh Salt-Free Ocean Water Bottles | Under the Sea Party at directorjewels.com

I didn't have a way to prop up the Fresh Salt-Free Ocean sign, so I used a little bowl of beans. But then I think everyone thought they were supposed to eat the beans. So it was a bit confusing.

I had every intention of cutting up some Larabars (my kids' favorite snack lately) to be "Kelp Cakes," but ran out of time.

Addie, ever the food thief, was happy to sneak in a rice chip before the party officially started.

Lincoln was perfectly thrilled with his birthday cupcake, the food assortment, and all the other party activities! And that, friends, is why I plan parties - the sheer joy on my kid's face.

I hope you enjoyed these Octonauts birthday party food ideas! Let me know in a comment below if you use them for your own party!

Addie's second birthday in November was a delightful celebration! Since I knew it was likely my last year to pick her party theme, I decided to add a little vintage flair. Because MY second birthday party was Winnie the Pooh themed and Addie has loved Pooh this year, it seemed like a perfect fit. I went with a slightly more unconventional theme, though: Tea for "2" with Winnie the Pooh was my official inspiration for the party. I had no issue with a normal Pooh theme, but I was able to do so many more girly decorations with the modification!

Fireplace Decorations for Disney Winnie the Pooh Birthday Tea Party Theme for Toddlers. 2nd Birthday Party Ideas. Hunny Pot, Flower Poofs, Teapot.

The fireplace decor was not too difficult to set up - I made a banner in the party colors of light pink, hot pink, teal, lavender, and white using my Silhouette Portrait. I made the Tissue Paper Flower Poofs from tissue paper I found at Target. The center ruffle was made from crepe paper, the Pooh was from our toy collection, and the orange teapot is part of my prop collection. The Hunny Pot is a basic terracotta pot that I painted - tutorial for that is coming soon!

I threw in the butterfly accents at the last minute - so sweet for a tea party, don't you think?

Addie liked all of the Pooh characters on her banner!

The Tissue Paper Flower Poofs made a big statement with very little effort. I love them - have been making them since the days when I threw tea parties for little girls at the library where I worked.

I decorated with various Winnie the Pooh characters, more butterflies, and vintage hats from my costume collection.

Ruffled Streamers (made using this tutorial from Dana Made It) are one of my favorite easy decorations, especially for girly parties.

I like to add some decor even to the outside of the house when I'm party planning, as an indication of the fun inside! When I did Lincoln's second birthday, the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse signs (free printable here) were a big hit. Andrew took on the task of crafting a 100-Acre Wood sign for Addie's party and I love how it turned out. I hung another hat on the front door.

Our party favor bags included Pooh board books, Pooh stickers, honey sticks, GoGoSqueez applesauce and a few other trinkets for the kids. The bee bags were purchased last year on clearance at Target after Easter.

I continued the flower poof and ruffle streamer decorations throughout the party area.

Vintage Hats. Disney Winnie the Pooh Birthday Tea Party Decorations and Theme for Toddlers. 2nd Birthday Party Ideas. Come to tea with Piglet, Eeyore, Rabbit, Owl, Christopher Robin.

More vintage hats and our collection of Pooh plush toys completed the look!

We even included the Pooh and Piglet from my childhood - I received this Piglet for my second birthday! Could it be more perfect?

We had a set of Winnie the Pooh bath toys out for the kids to play with, as well.

It's time to move on to the table display!

I used a lacy tablecloth and patterned china to go with the tea party theme.

I didn't have any really fancy food, but no one seemed to mind! I'm more about the decor, anyway!

My Pooh garden marker food signs were probably the cutest part of the table display. Or, maybe the Hunny Pots.

The Honey sticks were such a huge hit! I would never have expected it, but everyone really enjoyed them.

We're in the middle of fighting a battle against tooth decay, but I still couldn't imagine a party with no cake.

Vintage Teapots. Tea Party Table and Food Display. Disney Winnie the Pooh Birthday Tea Party Decorations and Theme for Toddlers. 2nd Birthday Party Ideas.

We served drinks from teapots and used teacups for everyone - china for grownups, and plastic for the kids.

I actually created almost everything for this party in an 18-hour time period, so I was really happy with how everything turned out.

My little princess had a lovely time sipping tea and munching cupcakes at her party! I know that this post is already photo heavy, but there are a few more pictures of Addie enjoying her party that I just have to share!
