Turn Up Your Look for LESS with Tresemmé® and Dollar General
Do you want to know the last time I really styled my hair?
EASTER. Yes. Easter, as in April of this year. See:
It looks like somehow I managed to avoid ever posting my Easter recap, even though I have the photos completely edited and ready. How awesome is that?
It may be a rare occasion that I have the chance to actually fix myself up, but thankfully it's possible to look like a celebrity (I'm totally pulling that off, right?) without spending like one. Thanks to Tresemmé® and Dollar General, it's easy to ramp up my own unique style and still stay within our budget.
Next time I have an event to prep my hair for, I'm definitely going to be checking out this style gallery for inspiration. My styles are basically straight or curled and I'm sure there are more options in the world than that! If you have any beauty tips (or just want to yell at me for only doing my hair a few times a year), tweet them to me (@directorjewels) with the hashtag #DGStyleTips - I'd love to hear what you've go!

$50 Amazon Gift Card Giveaway from Fronto
News flash: Christmas is barely over three months away. THREE. That means there are about two months left before the whole world turns insane and shopping for holiday decorations, food, and gifts will become absolutely ridiculous. I don't know about you, but I never have any desire to take my toddlers to a mall in the midst of the holiday season. It's like a definite way to lose them.
So, I want one of you to get a head start at Christmas shopping (or just snagging something awesome for yourself - because you clearly deserve it), and I've joined this fun giveaway for a $50 Amazon Gift Card! The best part: you can wait until December to order and still have something delivered to your door, without the hassle of driving to a crazy store. Win-win, right?
I had never heard of Fronto until this giveaway, but it's pretty cool! Fronto began with a really simple idea: your smartphone screen can be smarter. By revolutionizing the lock screen of your phone, they make brands, news and other important information more accessible. Basically: your lock screen will display advertisements and every time you unlock it, you earn money. Since you are probably unlocking your screen more times per day than you can count, I'd say it's a genius idea. Download fronto for your Android device here.
I don't have an Android, but I would totally download this app to give it a try if I did. Every penny counts around here!

7 Reasons You Should Be Using Target's Cartwheel App
The last time I went to Target, I saved $14.26 - and I didn't clip a single coupon. If you (like me) find that getting to a grocery store is in and of itself worthy of Olympic gold, chances are that you're always looking for ways to save money without coupons.
So you have no idea how excited I was when I found out about Target's Cartwheel app. I saw posts about it on social media for weeks before I actually downloaded it to my phone. I remember thinking, sigh, it's probably just more work that I don't have time to do. I was totally wrong. If you haven't given it a chance, read this list of reasons why you should have it - and then download it right now. You can thank me later.
Here's the gist: use this app to find savings offers (usually 5% or greater) for items you are probably already purchasing. WIN WIN WIN.
7 Reasons You Should Be Using Cartwheel When Shopping at Target
1. It's so much easier than clipping coupons. Before I threw away all of my coupons, I was once upon a time a contract coupon blogger. I spent hours upon hours finding, printing, clipping, filing, saving, and using coupons. Going to a store for a "coupon trip" required hours of prep time and the ability to focus at the register to make sure I was achieving maximum savings. Now? I'm lucky if I get through a checkout lane without Lincoln climbing up on the moving belt or no one pulling seventeen candy bars or lip balms off a display rack. I don't have the energy to be a couponing superstar anymore.
2. If you clip coupons or have a RedCard anyway, you can stack your savings. I know you're out there, mom who somehow can get two to three children in and out of a shopping cart without a food bribe, and even though you kind of disgust me with your incredible awesomeness, I respect you. And the good news for you is, Cartwheel offers can be stacked with both regular manufacturer coupons and Target store coupons - either printed or mobile. Hello savings fest. Also, heads up RedCard users - Cartwheel offers savings in addition to the 5% you already save everyday.3. You can still find a coupon while you are at the store. There's no more need to be a super prepared shopper. I am personally guilty of standing in the main store aisle, eyes trained on my smartphone as I soothe kids, smile at passersby, and quickly search for every single item in my (usually overflowing) cart to find a last-second deal. I had a bad habit, as a couponer, of leaving my coupons for a trip at home. No more feeling guilty because - yay - you can save money anyway now!
4. Everything Target sells is awesome, and now it's less expensive. Going to Target is a lot like going on vacation in my book, and I seem to always find several things I need in the Home, Kids, Women's, or Stationary departments - even if the only reason I went to the store was to buy cheese and eggs and organic apple juice. These purchases are more easily justified when you are saving five percent, right? It's like the best day ever when you find a higher percentage deal for something in your cart.5. You can stalk your friends and find out what they're buying. Since my job is steeped in social media, I spend a lot of time on Facebook. So you can assume that I'm a
6. You're rewarded each time you reach a savings threshold. What's better than saving money? Getting prizes for saving money. When you first install Cartwheel, you get a fixed number of "saving spots" - these are where you save the offers you want to use when you checkout. If you, like me, tend to buy everything in the store, you'll want to rack up extra savings spots so that you can maximize your potential to save.
7. You sometimes score amazing deals with one-day Cartwheel offers. Every now and then, you might receive a notification or email alert that there is a special Cartwheel offer available. Add it to one of your savings spots immediately if you find it - I once missed out on a 50% off women's apparel deal and was super bummed! My favorite surprise deal was 50% off all boxed holiday lights last Christmas. We got some really fun lights to add to our tree this year!
Are you convinced yet? If not, you should be. Go give the app a try. If you're a regular Target shopper, I promise you won't be disappointed!

Target Bargain, aka Buy All The Applesauce!
Once upon a time ago, I was a coupon/deal blogger. Okay, it wasn't that long
ago. I started that job about a month before Lincoln's arrival. It was my first venture into the world
of blogging - and it taught me a lot about myself, and the way that I work.
Ultimately, I figured out that I don't have what it takes to be a deal blogger
(those of you who are - you're amazing). I threw out my coupons and haven't looked back.
Occasionally, though, I feel a little sad that I'm no longer keeping up with the best deals. When I was blogging about freebies and coupons, my mailbox was always full of free samples and my receipts usually reflected a savings of 40% or more. Whether or not I was actually using any of these free things or fantastic bargains is beside the point.
Every now and then I want to start collecting more coupons and do it all over again, but by the time I think about taking the kids into multiple drugstores every week, it doesn't seem worth it. I'm thrilled when I find the occasional deal at a place I already shop - because I can relive the fun of being a bargain hunter without ending up with 19 tubes of expired toothpaste in my stockpile.
Last week, Target (aka my favorite place in the world - after Disney and NYC anyway) was offering a mobile coupon deal that was too good to pass up: Spend $40 on select groceries and get $10 off! When I saw that GoGosqueez was included on the approved items list, it was a no-brainer. It may not be the cheapest applesauce option, but it's not filled with artificial ingredients and is so convenient. It's also possible that no one but mommy is allowed to eat the Apple-Cherry variety in our home.
So, here's the deal I snagged:
-7 Small Boxes of GoGosqueez (at $2.49 each): $17.43
-3 Large Boxes of GoGosqueez (at $6.99 each): $20.97
-2 Bottles of Simply Lemonade + Blueberry (at $2 each): $4.00
Total: $42.40
Coupons/Discounts Used:
-$10 off $40 Grocery Purchase Mobile Coupon
-$.15 off for bringing my own bags
-$2.12 (5%) off for using my Target RED Debit Card
Total after Coupons:
$30.13
Total Saved:
$12.27 or 29%!
Is it my best deal ever? No. But I'm happy with the savings because my kids will eat all of this applesauce before it expires. They'll probably eat it all before September! A deal is only a really great deal if it's something that you would buy at regular price anyway - and this one definitely fit that bill.
Now if you'll excuse me, I think I'll sneak in some Apple-Cherry for myself while Lincoln is napping!
